Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şebnem Özdemir received her bachelor’s degree from the Mathematics Department of Yıldız Technical University. She completed two master’s degrees at Istanbul University, one in Mathematics Education and the other in Informatics.

She earned her PhD in Informatics from Istanbul University and later conducted postdoctoral research at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She subsequently moved to MIT CSAIL, where she continued her work in artificial intelligence.

Currently, Özdemir serves as the Head of the Management Information Systems Department at İstinye University and also holds the position of Chair in the Data Science Department. She is the founder of Usight Software and Artificial Intelligence Technologies.

Her machine learning model, developed in 2016, earned the “Human Development Research Award” from Koç University’s UNESCO Chair. In 2020, she received the “Leadership Award for Raising Awareness in Artificial Intelligence” from CIO Turkey, and in 2021, she was honored with the “Artificial Intelligence for Social Benefit” award by the International Accessible Computing Platform.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özdemir has been involved as a lead researcher, consultant, and researcher in numerous national and international projects focused on data science and artificial intelligence. She has published several book chapters, research articles, and patents on various national and international platforms. Her main research areas include artificial intelligence, data science, management information systems, decision-making, and mathematical modeling.
